  • John and the Hole Trailer

There are lots of things you can put in a hole in the ground…

I find the premise for the psychological thriller John and the Hole, intriguing and charmingly disturbing. The story revolves around John, a young boy who has trapped his family in a hole in the ground. Judging by the trailer it seems to boil down to that John wants to know how it’s like to be an adult and when one stops being a kid, which makes him take radical action.

  • The Awakening – Retro Horror from the ’80s

“The Awakening”, is a horror movie from the 1980, which is loosely based on Bram Stoker’s 1903 novel, “The Jewel of Seven Stars”. The movie wasn’t just director Mike Newell’s first step from television to movies, it was also one of Stephanie Zimbalist’s first acting roles for the silver screen.

  • 47 Meters Down – Killer sharks in the depths

While on a trip in Mexico, the two sisters Lisa and Kate, grabs the chance to go diving among ocean’s fiercest creatures. As they sit protected in their steel cage and admire the huge white sharks swimming around them, the steel cable holding the cage snaps and they began to sink towards the ocean floor. After the dust settles and their panic diminish, they find themselves trapped in a steel cage, 47 meters down. Soon they’re in a lethal race towards the surface, against vile sharks and a fading air supply.

The unfortunate sisters are played by Mandy Moore and Claire Holt, while the captain of their boat is played by Matthew Modine. “47 Meters Down” is made by the duo of Johannes Roberts and Ernest Riera, who gave us “The Other Side of the Door” last year.

I think that “47 Meters Down” seem to serve up a nail-biting and claustrophobic experience, which you might want to check out as it dives into the theatres on June 16th, 2017. Check out the trailer below and see what you think.

  • Micro – Another Crichton Adaptation

Michael Crichton gave us fascinating stories that often revolved around extraordinary science and technology, like Jurassic Park and Westworld, which have become huge successes in both movie and television. Now another book of his – “Micro” – is being adapted.

The plot in “Micro” revolves around a group of students that find themselves shrunken and tossed out in a forest, after they travelled to Hawaii to work for a biotech company. The only thing that stands between them and the dangers that lurk around them in the forest, are their scientific expertise and wits.

So far, the “Jurassic World” producer Frank Marshall, is tied to project, as well as screenwriter Darren Lemke (“Jack the Giant Slayer”). Even though no cast has been revealed, filming is allegedly planned to start sometime later 2017.

Crichton said that “Micro” was an adventure story that he enjoyed working on, and that it would be informative, in a fun way, about the environment. I think it sounds like an exciting project, and I hope that it will be at least as entertaining as the previous adaptions of his works.

While waiting for “Micro” to popup in a theatre nearby, you can pass the time with movies like, “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids”, starring Rick Moranis from 1989 or and “Innerspace” with Martin Short and Dennis Quaid, from 1987. Both with fun and intriguing plots revolving around shrunken people. Albeit a tad aged, I think they are still worth watching. Or, you can always buy and read the book itself (“Micro: A Novel”), while waiting.

  • Incarnate Opens on December 2

On Friday December 2, director Brad Peyton’s Incarnate, starring Aaron Eckhart, Carice van Houten and David Mazouz, will enter the theaters. Judging by the story, which feels like a mix between Dreamscape and The Exorcist, I think it looks like a promising movie.

In the movie we meet the wheelchair-bound Dr. Seth Ember (Eckhart), a man with the ability to enter the minds of possessed people, to cast out their demons from the inside. As he enters the mind of a boy, he learns that the demon who set up camp there as the same that killed Ember‘s family in the past.

I like the variant of the bringing the actual exorcism inside the possessed, instead of going the usual stand-by-the-bed-chanting route, which gives the movie an interesting and fresh feeling. Have a look at the second trailer, for the Incarnate, below and see what you think.

You might recognize Eckhart from his role as Harvey Dent in the movie Dark Knight, Mazouz as Bruce Wayne in Gotham and van Houten from her role as Melisandre in Game of Thrones.
