Voltage Pictures has announced that they have paired the “remake” director Marcus Nispel (Conan the Barbarian, Friday the 13th and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) with Steven Schneider, the producer of Insidious and Paranormal Activity, to bring us their upcoming horror movie Backmask.
The story in Backmask revolves around a group of teenagers, who stumble upon an old vinyl record at a party, which they decide to play backwards, hoping to catch any subliminal/satanic messages. Not surprisingly, they get more than they bargained for.
As they play the record, a vicious spirit is released who infiltrates the group, causing mayhem as it moves from body to body. After a while, the group discovers that the spirit is trying to convey an important message, saying that the real threat not necessarily needs to supernatural, it could be something much closer to home . . .
I like the storyline of Backmask, especially the part of the spirit moving from body to body, which could be quite colorful to see, considering the setting is a wild sex, drugs, and rock-fueled party!
No release date has been set for Backmask yet, but production is planned to start this summer on July 13, so hopefully we’ll get more updates about this one after that.
