12 Games To Look Out For In 2011

It seems that 2011 will be an excellent year for fans of horror, fantasy and sci-fi when it comes to movies, but it seems that the world of video games also has a couple of upcoming titles that we sure could enjoy, as well. Below you’ll find 12 games that, if everything falls into place, will be released this year, which I think can be worth to look out for.

Silent Hill: Downpour (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360)

I’m convinced that Silent Hill: Downpour, the eighth installment in this outstanding horror series, is going to scare the pants off of me, as it storms out of the autumn darkness and into my PS3, this fall. In Silent Hill: Downpour, you’ll play Murphy Pendleton, an escaped prisoner, as you head into the unexplored southeastern part of Silent Hill, to get face to face with real horror and terror.

Fear 3 (Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3)

Fear 3, set shortly after the last game released its fearsome grip around us, offers co-op, an evolved cover system and more scares, so be prepared for a breathtaking mix of action and horror, as the game his the shelves in May.

Diablo III (Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X)

Given the time it has taken for Blizzard, to make Diablo III, we cannot expect anything less than sheer perfection, as we return to Sanctuary, to confront the evil warriors that are threatening the world. Sometime towards the end of the year you will be able to hack and slash your way through the game.

Shadows of the Damned (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360)

I have a feeling that this psychological horror game, from Suda 51 and Shinji Mikami’s Grasshopper, might end up to be something quite extraordinary. The story follows Garcia Hotspur who goes to hell to fight its evils in order to save his true love. Slated to descend into our consoles sometime this year.

Alice: Madness Returns (Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3)

In Madness Returns, taking place eleven years after the first game, Alice is still haunted by the traumatic memories of her parents’ deaths. After being released from Rutledge Asylum and into the care of a London psychiatrist, her hallucinations and internal conflict increases. Alice returns to Wonderland, in hopes of safety and comfort, only to find that evil has taken over, and she must protect its residents and herself from it. In short, think of it as Alice in Wonderland goes terrible wrong. Alice: Madness Returns is slated for release before summer, 2011.

Resistance 3 ( PlayStation 3)

In this sci-fi action game, you’ll travel the harrowing road from Oklahoma to New York City, encounter the remains of humanity, left in the aftermath of the brutal Chimeran invasion, along the way. You can tag along on the journey in the beginning of September, 2011.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (Microsoft Windows)

The sequel to the mature fantasy role-playing game “The Witcher”, based on the works of author Andrzej Sapkowski, contains a bigger and darker world, filled with chaotic political conspiracies and with an ambivalent relationship to morality. You will be able to step into its world on May 17, 2011.

Aliens: Colonial Marines (Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS)

In this game, which is much based on the movie Aliens, you step into the shoes of a Colonial Marine, to fight hordes of the dreadful and drooling aliens, either you do it single handed or let up to four friends help you, via the co-op mode. We’ll hopefuly be able to take on those sinister aliens sometime this fall.

Grey Matter ( Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360)

Jane Jensen, the one who gave us the marvelous Gabriel Knight series, gives us a straightforward point and click adventure. The game follows Samantha Everett, a magician and street performer, as well as Professor David Styles, an distinguished and mysterious neurobiologist. Is said to be released in February, 2011.

Sorcery (PlayStation 3)

An action adventure game, where your Move controller becomes a wand, as you take the role of a young sorcerer’s apprentice, who must learn to master the arcane arts, to defend her homeland from the evil that has enshrouded it. Sorcery will materialize in your PS3 in early April.

Jurassic Park: The Game (Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X)

The game will have an original storyline, which is set both concurrently and after the plot of the original Jurassic Park movie, and it’s also said to fix some of the loose ends from the movie, as well. However, the most interesting about this third-person adventure game, is the nocturnal dinosaurs with glowing eyes, which are said to be included in it. Sometime this year we will be able to find out just how compelling they actually are.

Darkspore (Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X)

Maxis takes it sweet and sugarcoated Spore and turns it into a dark, hack-and-slash role-playing game, placing you in alien worlds to fight the mutated forces of Darkspore, to save the galaxy. Clearly a truly powerful and engrossing title that will be available in March, 2011.

Now, since this list only holds a small fraction of all the quality games that will be unleashed this year, feel free to add the games you look forward to this year, in the comments below.
