Sharktopus Coming on DVD and Blu-ray

I belong to the crowd of people that find pleasure in watching Syfy’s humorous caricatures of horror, with their obscure monsters, logical loopholes and cheesy effects, since they always crack me up.

However, it’s those shamelessly funny and creative names that I admire above anything else, though. You can check out this list of Syfy’s Best Movie Titles at IGN to see what I mean!

Now one of Syfy’s highest rated creature ever, seen by over two million jaw dropping viewers as it aired in September will make its DVD and Blu-ray debut on March 15 – Sharktopus!

It’s hard not to bat an eyelid as you see this imaginative hybrid of shark and octopus, rise from the ocean to take a stroll on land using its tentacles! Something less surprising though, is that Eric Roberts stars in the movie.

The storyline follows Nathan Sands (Roberts), a genetic scientist that created Sharktopus, armed with problem-solving intelligence, as a super weapon for the U.S. Navy. Amazingly, during a training drill outside Mexico, Sharktopus’s control implants get damaged and the creature escapes to Puerto Vallarta, to munch on all the tasty bikini babes, jet-skiers and spring-breakers having a blast there.

It’s up to an odd group of a hotshot mercenary, an investigative reporter, and Sand’s daughter, skilled in biomechanics, to stop this nightmarish abomination from gobbling up all the tourists on the popular resort.

Sharktopus were directed by Declan O’Brien (Wrong Turn 3), after a story written by Mike MacLean, who have blessed the world with Dinocroc vs. Supergator and Road Raiders, as well. It was produced by Roger Corman, who also does a hilarious cameo in it.

Check out the trailer below, which I’m sure will stimulate your fantasy nerves a bit.
