Who’s Up for The Lead in The Dark Tower?

Who will be playing Roland Deschain, the last living member of a knightly order of gunslingers, in the adaptation of Stephen King’s magnum opus, The Dark Tower?

Although the answer to that burning question still lingers inside director Ron Howard’s head, the rumors are starting to close in on a couple of interesting names, though.

A couple of weeks ago, as Los Angeles Times caught up with Howard, he talked about Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig as possible candidates, but also mentioned that the fansites are vouching for Viggo Mortensen, as well. Now, a source to the New York Post reveals that Javier Bardem is in fact Howard’s first choice for the role.

Since this project will be of gigantic proportions, slated to span over three movies with a two-season TV-series in-between, whoever gets the role will defiantly have their hands’ full.

Since The Dark Tower is set for a 2013 release, it should be enough time for Bardem (Wrath of The Titans and Cogan’s Trade), Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) and Viggo Mortensen to complete their individual projects before the production will begin.

Personally, I think that Bardem, with his height, muscular yet lean body with his authority style would make a great Roland. I think that both Jackman and Mortensen are so attached with their previous characters, in my mind, that it would never ‘feel right’ to see them as Roland, for me anyway.

Who do you picture as Roland, is it Bardem, Jackman, Mortensen or do you see someone else, like Daniel day Lewis or even Hugh Laurie?
