Few movies can turn me into a scared little boy, refusing to go to bed unless every light in the house is lit and the closets are checked, than a good exorcism movie can.
Movies like The Exorcism (1973) and Scott Derrickson’s The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005) really makes my blood turn cold and drives my fear into overdrive. If you haven’t seen these two, which I rank very high on my best-horror-ever list, I urge you to turn of the lights and see them ASAP!
As I watched this second trailer for Swedish director Mikael Håfström’s upcoming The Rite, my expectations over it increased at the same rate as my pulse.
One thing that makes me really excited over The Rite, is the fact that Sir Anthony Hopkins is starring in it. Judging by the trailer, it seems that he will give us the kind of acting, which will make your blood freeze, as he did so well in The Silence of the Lambs.
Another reason is that Rutger Hauer, which I hope you remember for his outstanding bone-chilling performance in The Hitcher (1986), also stars in it. I really hope that they will share a couple of intense scenes together, since that could be marvelous to see, or what do you think?
The Rite revolves around Michael Kovak (Colin O’Donoghue) skeptical seminary student, who reluctantly go to an exorcism school at the Vatican. There he meets Father Lucas (Anthony Hopkins), an unorthodox priest, who introduces Kovak to the darker side of their faith.

The Rite is based on the nonfiction book The Rite: The Making of a Modern Exorcist researched and written by Matt Bagli. Still, since Bagli didn’t write the screenplay, it’s hard to tell how far from the book the movie eventually landed. Nevertheless, the book is claimed to be based on a true story, but if the movie is, remains to be seen early next year on January 28.
