Red State is Kevin Smith’s upcoming horror movie, with a clear religious theme, starring Michael Parks (Kill Bill, From Dusk Till Dawn) and John Goodman (The Big Lebowski, O Brother, Where Art Thou?).
Smith has said that he got the inspiration for this movie from the infamous pastor Fred Phelps. Although, the movie will not be about Phelps himself, but a Phelps like character, which will be played by Michael Parks.
Not much is known about the actual plot, more than it will be set in the middle of America depicting fundamentalism, taken to its absolute extreme. However, I hope that the teaser trailer, which will be released on Christmas day, will reveal a bit more about the movie itself.
John Goodman is also starring in this movie and it will be very interesting to see what type of role he does. Personally I hope that he’ll play a villain role, something that I think he would do very well, instead of the heroic role, the rumors have placed him in.
Nevertheless, I’m sure that Smith will stir up some opinions, on both ends, with this movie and I can hardly wait to see that teaser trailer.
Here you have two new posters for Red State, both with an eerie touch attached to them and I also think that they leave the door open for all kind of interpretations, as well.
Red State will be screened at Sundance festival, in the non-competition section, in January next year, but before that I hope that we will have a release date.
