Zack Snyder describes his upcoming movie Sucker Punch as, Alice in Wonderland with machine guns, a very funky description that deserves a closer look.
However, if you expecting to see a blond infuriated girl, dressed in an innocent blue dress, shooting cute rabbits to pieces with blood spraying over her baby like face, you’re wrong, but it’s not that far from the truth, actually!
Sucker Punch, set in the 1950s, revolves around Baby Doll (Emily Browning) a traumatized girl that is sent to get a lobotomy at an institution by her sinister father. To cope with all the pain in her life, she takes refuge in an imaginary world, created by her vivid fantasy. In her dream world, she is unrestrained by the boundaries of time and place and free to go wherever her mind takes her.
Realizing that her dream world can help her escape the terrible institution, she inspires four other girls to join her and together they set out in the imaginary world, facing everything from samurais to dragons, with the hopes that their experiences in the dream world will set them free in the real world – if they just can survive long enough.
I think that the premise of the movie sounds fresh and promising and it will be interesting to see how Zack (300, Watchmen) Snyder has chosen to present it on March 25, 2011.
Also check out the trailer below, which is actually very cool, showcasing some of the imaginary fantasy creatures featured in the movie.
