James McAvoy to Star in X-Men: First Class

The British actor James McAvoy will play Charles Xavier as young, in the upcoming prequel “X-Men:First Class”, which Matthew Vaughn will direct.

I think that casting McAvoy for the role was a good choice, since I think he is a versatile actor, able to do both serious and relaxed roles, like the ones he did in “The Last King of Scotland” and “Wanted”.

I have a feeling that he will depict the distinct characteristics of the calm and calculating Xavier, very well.

However, I guess that this means that we will not see him in “The Hobbit”, though.

“X-Men:First Class”, slated for a summer release next year, is set before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr became Professor X and Magneto, when they where still close friends, just starting to discover their powers. We are also taken through the events that eventually started the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-MEN.

Fox has yet to tell who will play Erik Lensherr, but since the production is set to start early this summer in London, I guess an answer to that question will come anytime now.

However, if would choose, I would like to see either Zachary Quinto (Star Trek, Heroes) or Benedict Cumberbatch (The Other Boleyn Girl, Amazing Grace), as the young Magneto, since they both have the looks and style for the part, but that’s just me, though.

What do you think, is McAvoy the right one to play the young Charles Xavier and who would you like to see as the young Magneto?
