“Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker!”
It has been over 20 years since we heard John McClane say those unforgettable words for the first time. Since then we have been able to see him, single handedly, fight vicious terrorists and regardlessly if they have been lurking in a skyscraper or on the net, he has found a way to finish them off, with a witty remark.
You could think that John McClane had done it all allready, but the “Hitman” screenwriter Skip Woods and Fox apparently begs the differ, since they are discussing a fifth Die Hard movie, all according to The Hollywood Reporter.
I must be honest and say that I was not particular thrilled about the news about another Die Hard movie, since the latest movie, “Live Free or Die Hard” felt kinda washed out and did not bring much new to the concept. It felt like I had seen it all before, both stronger and colorful, too.
However, the fact that Woods is involved in the project and considering that neither one of his previous works (Swordfish, Hitman and X-Men Origins: Wolverine) has turned out bad, makes me curious on what type of story he has come up with.
Even though the storyline has not been revealed, I guess that Woods are smart enough to stay away from the good old terrorist storyline, for this one. Instead, I hope he has something fresh and clever in mind. I know that I would not lose any sleep if he takes the chance of making it into the grand finale of John McClane – killing him off in some heroic and ironical way, in the end.
Another far fetched idea would be to call up Richard Donner and work out a crossover between Die Hard and Lethal Weapon. Considering all the revamps and remakes that flood the cinemas these days, I would not be surprised if the idea of a Lethal Weapon 5 is not already growing in some executives head, right now!
Nevertheless, what are your take on this, do you feel pumped for yet another Die Hard movie or do you think that a yawn feels more exciting?
Here is the Die Hard story so far, if you have forgotten…
Die Hard (1988)
Die Hard 2 (1990)
