Happy Birthday Clint Eastwood!

Today the movie legend Clint Eastwood will be 80 years old and he can look back on an epic journey that has lasted for almost 60 years in the movie industry, and it is far from over, actually!

His story begins in San Francisco, on May 31, 1930 when Clint Sr., a steelworker, and Ruth, a factory received a baby boy, which they named Clinton Eastwood Jr.

His first trembling steps in the movie business begun as he left college, trying to pursue a business career, and suddenly found himself in an uncredited role, as a lab assistant, in the horror movie “Revenge of the Creature” in 1955.

Clint must have liked that experience, since he continued to appear various B-movies, until he got a small breakthrough with the TV-series “Rawhide” in 1965. Then he moved on with spaghetti Westerns, an era for which he would become really notable.

The spaghetti era started with a “Fistful of Dollars” and a “Few Dollars More”, but it wasn’t until the third movie “The Good the Bad and the Ugly”, people really started to notice him and he began to receive bigger starring roles like in, “Where Eagles Dare” and “Paint Your Wagon”.

Clint’s second landmark came in 1971, when he first played the character, Harry Callahan in “Dirty Harry”, a role which would turn out to be almost legendary. The “Dirty Harry” series has a lot of great movies, with “Magnum Force” as my personal favorite. The thrilling saga of Harry Callahan ended with “The Dead Pool”, in 1988.

Despite the success with “Dirty Harry”, he continued doing Westerns as well, throughout the 70’s, with memorable titles like, “High Plains Drifter”and “Hang ‘Em High”. With “The Outlaw Josie Whales” as a personal favorite, because of its outstanding script.

At the end of the 70’s Clint also appeared in a few comedies like, “Every Which Way but Loose” and “Any Which Way You Can”, where he also sang the soundtrack “Beers To You” together with Ray Charles.

In 1988 he directed “Bird”, a movie about Charlie Bird Parker. After that he directed and starred in “White Hunter, Black Heart”, which is loosely based on the life of John Huston.

Another big milestone in his life came 1993, when he received two Oscars, Best Director and Best Picture, for “Unforgiven”, where he also starred in and received a nomination for Best Actor, which he lost to Al Pacino (“Scent of a Woman”).

Since then he has continued to both directing and starring in a variety of movies. However, what makes Clint Eastwood into a wonderful storyteller, is that his movies conveys amazing stories and fascinating fates, in which we can relate and identify us within.

As I wrote in the beginning of this post, the saga of Clint Eastwood is far from over! It actually continues this year with “Hereafter”, a thriller with supernatural elements, starring Matt Damon. This will be followed by a biopic about J. Edgar Hoover, in which we might get to see Leonardo DiCaprio, as the first FBI director.

To celebrate his birthday, many of his movies will turn up on DVD/Blu-ray this week. Nevertheless, if you just going to buy one Clint Eastwood movie, then I would recommend you to buy, “Clint Eastwood Collection” available on Blu-ray, which includes:

  • “Absolute Power”
  • “Dirty Harry”
  • “Gran Torino”
  • “Kelly’s Heroes”
  • “Letters from Iwo Jima”
  • “Million Dollar Baby”
  • “Mystic River”
  • “The Rookie”
  • “Unforgiven”
  • “Where Eagles Dare”.

This great collection of Clint Eastwood movies will keep you chained to your couch, for a very long time, I guarantee you that! The collection will be available tomorrow (June 1) and you can buy it at Amazon, by follow this link.

Knight and Day – Extended 4 min. Clip

20th Century Fox France, has released a fresh 4 minute clip from the upcoming action comedy “Knight and Day”, starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, in their first movie together since “Vanilla Sky” (2001).

In “Knight and Day” Cruise plays Miller, a secret agent, who bumps into the unlucky-in-love June Havens (Cameron Diaz). It all ends with Miller dragging June into a dangerous and thrilling, yet comedic, battle over a super battery, which might be the solution for the world’s energy problems.

Things gets even more complicated for the confused June, as Miller’s former employers contacts her and informs her that Miller actually are having a mental meltdown, which leaves her clueless about who she can really trust. At the same time June’s sister, April Havens (Maggie Grace), is excited that June will take the place of their late father and walk her down the aisle.

I actually have high hopes for this, not only because the story seems to be doped with high-octane action, but also because I think the role as the charming, quick-witted and a tad flipped-out, Miller will fit Cruise like a glove.

I think that this role is much like his Ethan Hunt character, without the stale and dead serious tone, though. Also, Cameron Diaz is always a treat to see upon the silver screen, too.

In any case, the movie cannot be worse than its poster that I have include below can see below, which I think looks like a badly designed James Bond wannabe-poster or something, or what do you think?

“Knight and Day” will hit the theaters on June 25, this summer.

Megan Fox as a Sexy Mermaid?

A couple of days ago I wrote about the fact that Megan Fox got kicked from her role as Mikaela Banes in “Transformers 3”. Even though there has not been any official reason to why she got sacked, the talk says it was some sort of conflict between her and the director Michael Bay that was behind it.

Now the words is that she has been offered a role in the upcoming pirate comedy “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”. According to Showbiz spy, Fox has been offered the role of a sexy, but sinister mermaid, who will try so seduce Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp).

If this turns out to be true, then Fox will be teaming up with the French actress Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, who is said to play Syrena, another mermaid in this adventure.

So it looks like the one who will give the movie its feminine charms, in the absences of Keira Knightley, will be Megan Fox, Penélope Cruz, Astrid Berges-Frisbey. However, as we have learned from “Transformers 3”, things could change in a heartbeat, even after production start.

Although, I hold my fingers crossed that we’ll see Fox as mermaid, in the end.

In “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”, Captain Jack Sparrow and Captain Hector Barbossa sets sail to find the to find the Fountain of Youth. However, they aren’t the only ones looking for it. Captain Blackbeard, together with his daughter Angelica (Penélope Cruz), also wants to find it.

The filming will start this summer, in Hawaii, before it will sail into the theaters on May 20, next year.

Larry Crowne – Set Photos

Here we have a couple of fresh photos of Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts as they’re busy working on the set of Hank’s upcoming comedy/drama “Larry Crowne”, taken earlier this week on May 26 and 27.

I call it Hanks movie, because it literally is. Apart from writing and staring in it, he’s also the one producing and directing it, as well. Well, to be honest, Hanks co-wrote the movie with Nia Vardalos, who wrote “My Big Fat Wedding”, but it’s still impressive of him to take on this multitasking role, though.

The movie centers around the middle-aged man, Larry Crowne (Tom Hanks), who after losing his job, decides to try reinvent himself by going back to college.

Iron Baby – An Iron Man Parody

Here is an Iron Man parody, which I just have to share with you, since I think it’s so amazingly good and mind-blowing.

The mastermind behind this brilliant piece of digital artwork is Patrick Boivin, a French Canadian autodidact director and the little girl starring as “Iron Baby”, is in fact his own daughter.

I think that the idea is brilliant, but what amazes me the most, is the high level of quality that surrounds it. The digital effects, art work, the editing and the music is just top notch.

I think that Patrick Boivin and his daughter should be very proud of this and I have no doubt that this will go viral, in no time!

I just hope that Patrick will create an “Iron Baby 2”, since I would love to see it, especially if he would include Whiplash in it as well, that would be really cool!

What do you think about this cute, yet a tad bizarre, digital gem?

Action Filled Sneak Peek of The Expendables

A fresh sneak peek of Sylvester Stallone’s “The Expendables” has turned up on the net. In this short, but action-packed preview, we get a short glimpse of every thick-skinned bruiser that stars in the movie like, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Terry Crews, Mickey Rourke, Steve Austin, Randy Couture and Bruce Willis, rumble around to the tones of “The Boys Are Back in Town”.

James McAvoy to Star in X-Men: First Class

The British actor James McAvoy will play Charles Xavier as young, in the upcoming prequel “X-Men:First Class”, which Matthew Vaughn will direct.

I think that casting McAvoy for the role was a good choice, since I think he is a versatile actor, able to do both serious and relaxed roles, like the ones he did in “The Last King of Scotland” and “Wanted”.

I have a feeling that he will depict the distinct characteristics of the calm and calculating Xavier, very well.

However, I guess that this means that we will not see him in “The Hobbit”, though.

The Last Exorcism Trailer

The trailer for Eli Roth’s latest horror project “The Last Exorcism” has hit the digital freeway and even though I didn’t think it wasn’t all that enchanting, I do believe it could do a good job tyrannize our minds, nonetheless.

In the center of “The Last Exorcism” we find the Reverend Cotton Marcus (Patrick Fabian), who has grown tired of conducting exorcisms, since he thinks it’s just a bogus way for the church to earn money from religious maniacs.

When the widower Sweetzer (Caleb Jones), an earnest fundamentalist who lives on a farm in Louisiana, asks Cotton to do an exorcism on his daughter Nell (Ashley Bell), Cotton decides that this will be his last. He also brings a film crew, to make confession documentary out of the whole thing, as well.

The Human Centipede – The Sickest Movie Ever?

“The Human Centipede”, the movie about a demented surgeon, obsessed with the idea to create a human centipede, by stitching people together, from ass to mouth, has begun to spread through VOD and at some theaters.

The reactions have not been long in coming, with people simple walking out of the theaters and even throwing up during the movie. It almost sounds as the reactions that, “The Exorcist” by William Friedkin, got back in 1973. Then the audience fainted in the theaters, out of fear though and not out of disgust.

Discount Movie Tickets at Fandango

We all know that going to the movies, regardless how cheap it actually is, could add up to a relative hefty sum, at least if you are visiting your local cinema often.

Therefore, I thought I would share this money-saving offer with you, which could help you save 20% off your movie tickets. The best thing is that you might already have the thing needed to take advantage of this, which is a Visa Card that simply says ‘Visa Signature’ across it.
