If you’re waiting to see Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor cuddling in the dark and gayish comedy, I Love You Phillip Morris, you may need to wait a long time, since its distributor Consolidated Pictures Group has decided to put in on hold, in worst case indefinitely.
I don’t think it is the gay theme in the movie that is the problem, considering that Brokeback Mountain paved that road, a long time ago, I guess its more a question about money and that CPG doesn’t have the financial strength to release it, just yet.
Regardless of the reason, it creates a rather funny situation. Even though the movie was filmed almost two years ago in the US, it’s more likely that it will be out on DVD/Blu-ray in Europe, before it sees the inside of a US cinema.
Even though I think movies should be experienced in a cinema first and at home second, a DVD/Blu-ray or even VOD release is better than no release at all, if you ask me. However, there is still hope of seeing it in the cinemas, rather than on DVD or VOD, since Carrey wrote on Twitter that it will be out this fall, but he wasn’t more specific than that, though.
Well, I think it’s a bummer that we have to wait for it, especially since I think that the story and the role fit Carrey like a glove. Besides that, it has also received positive reviews, around the world, and currently it has a 83% rating at Rotten Tomatoes, as well.
