Repo Men, with Jude Law and Forest Whitaker is a sci-fi action flick, with a slightly bizarre touch, directed by Miguel Sapochnik, after an adaption of the novel, “The Repossession Mambo”.
The plot in Repo Men is set in a near future, where a company called The Union has managed to extend humans life, through their sophisticated and advanced mechanical organs.
However, these organs doesn’t come cheap and if you don’t pay your bill, the company sends out their repo men, to reclaim them, regardless of the comfort or the life of the bearer. This tends to be a bit messy, from time to time…
Remy (Jude Law) is the company’s best repo man; unfortunately he suffers a cardiac failure, on a standard reclaim job. When he wakes up, he discovers that the company has replaced his old heart, with one of their new innovative ones.
However, as Remy gets back to work, it’s painfully clear to him that he no longer is able to do his job. When Remy cannot manage the payments, for his cutting-edge heart, the company sends out his former partner Jake (Forest Whitaker) to, literally, rip the heart out of his body.
Meanwhile, Remy bumps into Beth (Alice Braga), another one who has failed to pay her debt to the company. From Beth, Remy learns how to become transparent to the system and together they heads out on a quest to beat the company.
I like the bizarre touch of the story, which takes the current lack of organ donors to its limit and beyond. The other thing I like about it, is the fact that Forest Whitaker is in it, as he never does a bad job and it will be fun to see what he can do with this, as he and Jude Law enters the theaters on April 2, 2010.
