Ti West has both written and directed The House of the Devil, which is supposed to be very creepy, according to the ones that have seen it. Jocelin Donahue is playing the main character and it’s her lead role debut, as well. The movie also stars the cult actors, Tom Noonan and Mary Woronov.
The story plays out somewhere in the 80’s, where the college sophomore Sam (Donahue) takes an odd babysitting job at an old couple (Noonan and Woronov) with no kids, in order to pay the deposit on an apartment that she needs.
However, as Sam thinks this will be an easy job, where she can just hang out and listen to music, the couple has other plans for her. They plan to use her in a satanic ritual, which they are going to perform during an upcoming lunar eclipse…
The team used 16mm film, to shoot the movie, to enhance the atmosphere and style from the 80’s, something that they succeeded very well with, as you can see in the trailer.
Maybe that’s the reason to why it has received such good reviews, it reflects the horror movies from that time, which scared the living daylights of us, when we was young?
Nevertheless, The House of the Devil will have a limited premiere in the US on Halloween, October 30, 2009.
