Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant

I will be frank and confess that I have a weakness for those adventure movies with uncanny and monstrous creatures. For example, I really enjoyed Stephen Norrington’s, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen with Sean Connery and Shane West, despite its flaws. Another favorite is Van Helsing, where Hugh Jackman, Kate Beckinsale join forces to stop Dracula and a vicious werewolf.

As a side note, both these movies were panned by the all-knowing critiques, so it seems that I am the only one the planet that treasures these kind of movies.

Therefore, I hope that the upcoming adventure, Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant will get a much better welcome.

I believe that the story, based on the book series The Saga of Darren Shan, written by Darren Shan, is perfect for a fantasy adventure flick, which appeals to anyone that enjoys vampires and fulgurous creatures.

The story is about Darren (Chris Massoglia), a regular kid that lives a normal and a tad boring life in his suburban neighborhood. One day he and his friend Steve (Josh Hutcherson) stumbles upon an extraordinary freak show called, Cirque Du Freak.

At the show, the two boys get to see extraordinary and monstrous creatures, such the snake-boy, the wolf-man and the bearded lady (Salma Hayek!).They also meet, Larten Crepsley (John Reilly) a vampire, which transforms Darren into an undead, with a thirst of blood.

From this moment on, Darren’s boring life parish and a dark extraordinary life unfolds before him. As Darren starts to explore his newly gained powers, he unknowingly, becomes an important pawn in the deadly game, between the vampires and their enemies.

I have great confidence in Paul Weitz, which has both directed and co-written the adapted screenplay for this one. He did the same with the movie, About a Boy, which got him an Oscar nomination for Best Writing.

I hope that The Vampire’s Assistant, will be at least as good as About a Boy and judging by the trailer, which shows off a magnificent iconography, it might as well be, or what do you think?

  1. Your blog is awesome. Great movie reviews. Im also not into adventure movies. Unless if they are created by Paramount, 20th century fox, lions gate because im sure, movies coming from these great companies is surely a nice movie. What i like are movies about vampire, gothic movies or movies that are somewhat related to the underground . I like League of extra ordinary Gentlemen. I like the character there who is immortal and cant be killed unless if he’s portrait is destroyed.

Well i watched the trailer “The vampires assistant” and its very awesome. Cant wait for it to be shown on cinemas here in the philippines.
