Diablo Cody won an Oscar for Juno, but I doubt that she will get an Oscar for her latest craftwork, Jennifer’s body, though. However, I think it has all the ingredients to become a cult classic, nonetheless.
We have a sexy and big mouthed (literally), cheerleader that eats good-looking college boys, like there was no tomorrow. Add to that a whole bunch of ingeniousness lines, a nerdy blonde girl, that is supposed to save the day and you have Jennifer’s Body.
Boy: “Am I too big?!”
Sure, the plot sounds like a questionable B movie, but after I watched the trailer, I get the feeling that Diablo Cody meant Jennifer’s Body to be a burlesque movie. Now, I have no idea if that was her attention from the beginning, but I cannot imagine she meant otherwise. Especially not after hearing the following in the trailer, Boy: “Am I too big?!”
When you see it in its right context, you will understand why it is a prime candidate to become the movie quote of the year.
However, there is another reason to why I think that Jennifer’s Body may be something extra, and that is the fact it breaks the standard college-horror pattern. In Jennifer’s Body, the hot female is the one slaughtering the though boys, instead of the other way around.
I only hope that Cody managed to use that to the movie’s advantage though, or else, Jennifer’s Body might just be an embarrassing belly flop for the award winning Cody, instead of becoming a classic one.
On the other hand, we should not expect too much from a movie, whose biggest buzz focus around whatever or not Megan Fox will flash her bosom, in the movie. The trailer also focuses on that, almost to the point that you could think that the movie’s name was Megan’s Body. That makes my warning bells go off and it gets me to suspect that the movie does not have anything more to deliver, than Megan Fox, alone.
Either way, there is no doubt that Jennifer’s Body will be seen on the Box-Office list after its premiere on September 18, maybe not for the reasons Diablo Cody thought from the beginning, though…
